Why we are a Community Interest Company

Why We are a Community Interest Company

08.06.2021

A Community Interest Company (CIC) is a company that has been set up specifically who want to use their profits and assets for good. A CIC does not, and cannot have shareholders, so any surpluses are reinvested in the business or the local community, meaning that they have a distinct and valuable role to play in helping create a strong, sustainable and socially inclusive economy, focusing on a specific social purpose rather than making profit for the sake of profit. We have to submit a Community Interest Statement and an annual Community Interest Report so we will be fully transparent in where our investments go and what they are to achieve.

Our Pledge to Assisting the Sustainable Food Industry

A CIC does need to justify its status by declaring how it will benefit the community. Here at Swper.Box our investment will be allocated by the board of directors to other local CIC’s or to purchase or lease land to develop community supported agriculture and ensure the sustainability of the business for the benefit of the local community. As well as the development of a fund to assist sustainable food industry entrepreneurs, including innovation around sustainable food packaging and positive circular economy projects.

Healthy Recipes for Low Income and At Risk Families

This will also take the form of low-cost nutritional meals for low income and at risk families within our community and running food workshops teaching people how to easily make healthy, tasty food and making better purchasing decisions. We are focused on creating a sustainable business model that will achieve this end.

There is no doubt in our minds that we can help to create a more sustainable business model within Wales leading to a more diverse and seasonal food production system and greater food security coupled with leading to a healthier and greener nation.
